How to get to Tinos?

There is no airport on Tinos Island itself which makes the Island feel a little bit more secluded. To get to Tinos you will need to fly into neighbouring island Mykonos. There are several different airlines that fly direct from London to Mykonos, however during peak season be aware that these can become very expensive so it would be best to book in advance.

When you arrive at the airport in Mykonos you will want take the bus down to the port. A bus from the airport will cost around 1.50 and they come every hour. Alternatively you can get a taxi from outside the airport this will cost around €60 or prebook a private transfer to help make the process a bit smoother.

From the new port you will be able to get a Ferry across to Tinos Island. There are many ferries running to the neighbouring island daily. To check the ferry times try Ferryhopper and use their Tinos Travel Guide & Ferry Timetable.

Alternatively you can travel from Athens to Tinos Island. From London there are several flights direct to Athens where you can then get transport to the port (make sure to check which port) and then catch a ferry across to Tinos.

When to visit Tinos?

Compared to some of the busier islands in Greece, Tinos is one of the islands that is still great to visit during peak season. During the summer months (May to October) the weather is warm and perfect for spending time at the beach, exploring this islands villages, and outdoor activities.

During August there is the pilgrimage of Panagia Evangelistria which can make Tinos Town slightly busier however we visited during this time and still found the island not too over crowded.

How to get around in Tinos?

Getting around Tinos there are various methods of transportation.

There is a local bus service on the island, this will take you to most of the island however bus services are not that regular. All of the bus times tables can be found through KTEL for all 3 of the islands services.

However we do recommended that you hire a car to get around Tinos Island. We were on the island during its peak in August and over the Pilgrimage to Church of Panagia Evangelistria and we didn’t find that there was a lot of traffic or issues parking at any point on the island. We hired our fiat through Vidalis Rent a Car, they were great and had the car waiting for us as we arrived off our ferry. Alternatively most places also have scooter hire however we wouldn’t recommend this during peak summer.
