Palma

Palma is the capital of the sunny island Mallorca in the Balearic Islands. From the main airport on the island Palma Airport it takes around 20 minutes to reach the city. As this is the city closest to the airport it can get very busy during peak seasons so the best time to visit would be in shoulder season which is May/June and again from Sept/Oct.

There is so much to do in Palma! Whether you have decided to head there for a sunny weekend away full of relaxation and dinning. Or perhaps you are looking for more of an active weekend hunting through art galleries and sailing in the ocean. Palma is so far our favourite city destination!

Valldemossa

Valldemossa is only a scenic 25 minute drive from Palma. When you arrive we recommend to have your breakfast and morning espresso at Forn I Pastisseria Ca’n Molinas. While you are there you can also try the traditional Ensaimada. Valldemossa is only a small town so half a day there is enough, however if you are staying over night you will be able to enjoy the town without any day tripping tourists.

The area is a great location for hiking with many trails starting and ending in Valldemossa through the mountainous region nearby. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat after your days actives make sure to check out the Tapas restaurant QuitaPenas.

Deia

After your visit in Valldemossa you can continue on another 15 minutes to reach Deia. Deia is a small village located near the coast on the Northern part of Mallorca. This area is very beautiful but also home to some of the most expensive hotels and resorts on the island.

If you are looking to head down to the beach for an afternoon swim you can head down to Cala Deia. Be aware though that the road down to the beach isn’t very accessible and when it is busy there is not enough space for lots of cars to head down. It may be best to come here first things in the morning and to also book the resturant in advance if youre wanting to stay for food.

Porto Petro

Porto Petro is a small port town and fishing village located 60 km from Palma. This small town was recommended to us by our Airbnb host in Felantix and we are so glad that they did. The town has a lot of highly rated local food to choose from and is also home to some of Mallorcas best hotels. It is also closely located to nearby Cala d’Or which has several beaches and restaurants in the area.

Soller

After your night in Deia you can head another 30 minutes further north to Soller. Soller is a traditional old town well known for its oranges, it celebrates its citrus growing every year with an Orange fair at the end of April/start of May. The best place to spend your day in Soller is Plaza de la Constitucion where you get to watch those wandering past as well as a perfect view of Sant Bartomeu de Soller and the tram passing infront.

If you want to head to the water from Soller you can get the tram out to Port de Soller and enjoy a stroll along the promenade. Make sure to check the tram timetables for the day as they do not run all night.

Santanyi

From Soller we drove 1 hour west to the town of Santanyi. To get here you do drive back around Palma again so you are slightly doubling back on yourself however we planned to head to Santanyi on this day to be able to explore its famous markets. The Santanyi markets run weekly on Wednesdays and Sunday from 9am until 2pm. The markets are absolutely massive and can make the town very busy so we recommend getting here no later than 10am to be able to find parking and really enjoy the markets.

Santanyi markets can bring large crowds to the area so being able to stay a night and enjoy the beautiful town once the crowds have gone will be much more enjoyable.

Felantix

Felantix is a tiny town located 50 kms from Palma. We would never have visited this town except for the fact we booked an Airbnb ( Can Vinyes, the Genuine Mallorca ) in the area for a couple of days as it is in a great location to visit neighbouring towns and locations. Our hosts had so much local knowledge on the area and it made staying in Felantix even more special.

The town has a weekly market every Sunday and it is definitely worth checking out as compared to some of the bigger markets on the island Felantix market is much more local and has most of the same vendors without the large crowds. For coffee and breakfast in Felantix make sure to check out Cafe Candela and for dinner and drinks Cafe Can Moix.
