Canggu located on the south coast of Bali Indonesia. To get to Canggu from the airport it is around a 30 minute journey depending on traffic, which can be very bad in Bali specially if you’re in a car.
Thanks to the world of social media I am sure you have seen that the area of Canggu has exploded during and after the pandemic. Of course we were curious and wanted to check it out!
Canggu really has a great mix of western options with still allowing local businesses to thrive in the area. This area has a very large population of Expats which have relocated to this very small part of Bali. Due to this it is a very busy area with lots of traffic! However if you’re looking for an area of Bali to explore with amazing food options, nightlight and great sunsets then Canggu is the area for you.

How to get around?
We pre-booked Bali Airport Transfers before arriving in Bali as we knew we wanted to have someone waiting for us when we arrived. It was one of the best things we had done after flying for the day, our driver sent us a message via WhatsApp (which is very commonly used in Bali) before arriving to let us know the details of our pick up.
Once you are there you can hire a scooter or motorbike from around 50 -150 k IDR depending on the type and quality of the bike. Most hotels and villas have direct contact with hire places and we found this the best option most of the time when hiring a bike.
If you don’t feel confident enough to be able to drive yourself around there are apps such as GRAB and Gojek where drivers on bikes will pick you up and drop off similar to Uber. You can also use these for taxis as well as food delivery.

Ecozy Dijiwa Canggu
We stayed in Ecozy Dijiwa Canggu & Mahalo Villas which we absolutely loved! They were both in a great area of Canggu, walking distance to lots of different cafes, resturants and the beach. Even though everything was fairly close we would still recommend hiring a scooter (if you’re confident enough) or getting around via Gojek/Grab.

There is an abundance of places to eat in Canggu! Whether you’re looking for something local, fine dinning or something in between you really are spoilt for choice around.

Warung Local
£
Looking for a great lunch spot in the heart of Canggu then Warung Local is a great spot for you. A typical Indonesian Warung serving amazing Nasi Camper, where you choose from different options to build your own plate. They serve a lot of vegetarian and vegan options as well. It can however get very busy at peak times as it is popular in the area.
Shady Shack

This vegetarian restaurant is set slightly back from the hustle and bustle of the busy Canggu streets. This cozy cafe serves up lots of different options and is open all day. All meals were served as good portions and we would highly recommend their burgers which were absolutely delicious.
Milk & Made Beach Road
££
Located close to Batu Bolong Beach this busy cafe and pizzeria have a large menu catering to all your needs. It is also a very family friendly cafe with lots of space and a playground in the courtyard.
Warung Jaba
£
This cheap and cheerful Warung is great for those budget conscious travellers. Located down the road from Warung Local however it is much quieter allowing you to guarantee yourself a seat even at the busiest of times. They have a small selection of Nasi Camper with a few limited options on their set menu.
Times Beach Warung

There are many places scattered along the beach in Canggu however this is our favourite. A quiter beach bar compared to the many other beach clubs in the area that specialise in amazing cocktails and delicious food. They have two types of seating including bean bags on the beach as well as seating on the deck for those fancier nights out. They are also open for breakfast and lunch post surf as well.

Canggu
Best for: intermediate surfers & beautiful sunsets
Canggu is a very prominent surf location on Bali’s South West coast and one of the top breaks on the beach. The Sandbar located in front of La Brisa provides one of Bali’s most popular waves. Best surfed on a rising tide, it can get quite crowded with locals and visitors alike trying to make the most of this break. When conditions are not as favourable, this is a great spot for intermediate surfers.
The surrounding areas of Canggu have exploded in popularity with expats and tourists recently. This has resulted in many new bars, restaurants and clothing shops opening up making Canggu a premier destination for your trip.
Batu Bolong
Best for: beginner surfers & longer boarders
Batu Bolong is the ideal beach break for beginner and intermediate surfers, along with long boarders. The soft sand break makes for low rolling waves that are very forgiving.
As a result of this, this beach can become very busy so would recommend visiting the beach first thing in the morning. You will find plenty of places to hire a surfboard from along the beach, along with local instructors to show you the ropes. If you are new to surfing and want somewhere that is not too intimidating to give it a try, Batu Bolong is the place to visit.
