Cotswolds (Wiltshire)
When the world was closed due and we could only travel in our own backyard we booked a cozy winter weekend away in the Cotswolds. If youre driving to the Cotswolds you are given lots of options for areas to stay such as Bibury, Castle Combe or Cirencester. If you are heading there on the train we would recommend a larger town to base yourself such as Cirencester, you can buy your train and bus tickets through Trainline here.
For our trip to the Cotswolds we stayed in Castle Combe a 3 hour drive from London. We stayed in the most beautiful Shepards Hut on a farm near Castle Combe for the link to the accomodation here. The hut had a wood burning fire inside and a fire pit outside, it was also a convenient walk away from The Salutation Inn which did the best Sunday roast.
Wiltshire is home to the fairytale village of Castle Combe. The village itself is only small but the walk and drive around is absolutely breathtaking. If you are also heading to the Cotswolds with a car we recommend checking out Lower Slaughter and Bibury as well.

Brighton
Brighton, famous for it’s artsy vibe and it’s seaside charm, is one of the best and closest weekends away. The journey from central London to Brighton will take around an hour and all your train tickets can be booked through Trainline. There are lots of hidden gems and unique places to visit whilst on your city escape.
Spend your day playing and enjoying the rides at Brighton Palace Pier before heading to The Lanes to shop for some hidden gems. After you will have a large choice of places to eat and drink at including some of our favourites Little Jack Fullers and Twisted Lemon.

Wanting to tick another country off the list but don’t have that much time? The High Speed LNER train departs Kings Cross to Edinburgh in 4.5 hours, you can purchase your tickers through Trainline here.
A beautiful old medieval towns with many different alley ways to be able to explore Edinburgh is a perfect getaway. There is always something happening in Edinburgh like the gin festival, Edinburgh Fringe or a musical festival.

Windsor
Don’t have a car? Still want to get away for a few nights to somewhere beautiful but also rich in history? Windsor might be the solution for you. Trains to Windsor depart from London Waterloo regularly and only take around an hour, you can purchase your tickets with Trainline here.

St Ives
St Ives is a Cornish seaside town full of romance. This seaside town is located 5 hours south of London and will need a car to be able to reach it as the train does not directly service this area. If you are looking to stay in Cornwall and want to go by train then the best places to stay is Penzance or St Austell, you can get your train tickets through Trainline here.
St Ives is filled with beautiful beaches and small boutique shops and galleries. Unfortunately over the summer and the school holiday months Cornwall can become busy, try to avoid these times if possible.

Whitstable
Looking for a shorter getaway from London? Trains run to from London Kings Cross to Whitstable in 1 hour and 20 minutes! It the perfect seaside escape from all the hustle and bustle from London life. Tickets for the trains can be purchased through Trainline here.
Though it is a small town there is always a lot going on in Whitstable. Spend your time wandering its boutique shops or eat your way through its independent food and drinks scene.

Bath
Bath located in Somerset in the UK and can be reached from London in 2.5 hours by car. The city itself is famous for its beautiful Roman architecture and can be a well needed relaxing escape from city life.
The best way to reach Bath is by train which takes 1.5 hours from Paddington Station, however it is best to book train tickets to Bath in advance as they do become very expensive if bought on the day. If you’re on a budget, you can also get the bus from London Victoria however this trip will take you around 3 hours. All your bus and train tickets can be booked through Trainline.

Bristol
Only a 1.5 hour train journey from London Paddington is Bristol. Bristol has its very own unique style, think of it as the ‘Camden’ of England. The city is always vibrant with its bright and colourful art lining the streets. There is always something happening in Bristol, whether it is a big concert, local band or even a gorilla park rave.
One of the biggest art attractions to the area is off course Banksy. Banksy, the street artist, is believed to have lived around the Bristol area in the 1990’s, most of his public artwork still remains and is now well maintained.
